Where to choose a step counter
Lawa asks you to choose a step counter during onboarding. You can change it later from Profile > Settings > Stepcounter.
Phone-based tracking
- On Android, Lawa can use the phone pedometer for direct phone-based tracking.
- Phone-based tracking is useful when you usually carry your phone while walking.
- It does not include steps from a smartwatch unless that watch also writes to a supported health source.
- On iPhone, choose Apple Health so Lawa can read the steps your phone and connected devices share there.
Health platform tracking
- Apple Health can be used on iPhone.
- Health Connect, Samsung Health, and Google Fit can be used on Android when available.
- These options can include steps from phones and devices connected to that health platform.
- Allow all requested health and fitness permissions, otherwise Lawa cannot read the steps.
Connected wearable tracking
- Garmin Connect can sync steps from Garmin devices after connection.
- Google Health (Fitbit) is coming soon. Treat it as unavailable until the option appears for your account.
- Provider-based step counters may ask you to sign in and approve access.
- Sync the wearable with its own app first, then open Lawa to pull in the latest available steps.
Changing sources
- Open Settings > Stepcounter and select an available source.
- Unavailable sources are shown lower in the list and cannot be selected until the required app, account, or permission is ready.
- For local providers, Lawa warns that you should restart the app before the change fully takes effect.
- If steps stop updating, check permissions, battery restrictions, and whether your selected provider still has recent steps.
